Introduction

Welcome to the Homepage of the Concilium Duodecim Populi Etruriae(CDPE). The CDPE was set up as a virtual rebirth of the Etruscan league of 12 within the virtual framework of the website known as Ancient Sites.(which is sadly no longer in existence)

Little is known about the affairs of the Etruscan League of 12, or Dodecapoli except what survives in the accounts of Greek and Roman historians poets and playwrights. The names of the cities can be deduced to some extent from these accounts, although there is no absolute consensus today on which cities were members of the league, or to what extent the members changed through time. We do know however, that during the later Roman period, the infrastructure persisted and the number of cities increased to 15.

Each city is represented by a Zilach (Praetor), and each has a separate though sometimes overlapping function in the league. The framework is not set up for the purposes of roleplay but in order to networking and sharing knowledge among participants, and to improve public knowledge about the Etruscans, who are often ignored or bypassed in studies of the Ancient World.
