Camitlnas has suggested that I tell more about my travels in the Etruscan world. I don't have the time right now (deadline to meet--I'm a free-lancer in the mundane world), but I wanted to get this topic started. In coming days I want to talk about the cities of today that were once Etruscan, museums with Etruscan content, Etruscan archaelogical sites & even aspects of the present-day world. For example, San Gimignano is not an Etruscan city, but it's on Etruscan territory, it's fairly central for a traveler--and the youth hostel has stunningly good coffee, as well as Vernaccia di San Gimigano by the glass, nice after a long day of archaeotourism (one brand is called Etrusco). Cortona has a wine bar called Fufluns and an impressive Etruscan Museum. The proprietor of a tiny restaurant in Orvieto discovered an Etruscan well under his restaurant. He stores his wines down there and has a glass plate on the floor so customers can look down into it. OK--more to follow. And put in your two cents too! Valete!
