In accordance with scientific principles we should look at all possibilities and examine each possibility on its merits. There are all sorts of theories, crackpot or otherwise floating around the Internet. I remember reading one about the origins of Atlantis, and claiming that the Basques and the natives of part of Guatemala shared linguistic characteristics from an Ice Age Atlantis located near the present day Dogger banks.. From what I could see it was more the product of a trained imagination than a disciplined mind. In this case too they were talking timescales of 10,000 years or more. I can't comment on the reports you quoted on Sub-Saharan Africa, but I would imagine that 10,000 years is too great a period to find anything remotely recognisable remaining in a culture. In terms of linguistics, we just have to look at the transition between the the "Proto Indo European language" if there is such a thing, and the various languages such as Greek, Russian, Lithuanian and even Welsh, which form the descendants of that language. In most cases the changes that have occurred in the last 2000 years have been less than the changes in the previous 2000 years, since the act of recording a language in written form tends to stabilise it to some degree. However I am digressing. If the supposed connections are in terms of artifacts, we dont even have agreement that the Villanovan culture is totally distinct from that of the Etruscans . Some believe that it is too much of a coincidence that Villanovan sites coincide exactly with early Etruscan settlements. - Camitlnas Next: Re: Tumulus Tombs ( Lauchum - Camitlnas Tullius ) Previous: The african hypothese ( wondering if... - Melisa Alexandros )
