Some of the older folks still speak the language. They like to say it's closer to English than to German. My Frisian relatives are given to red hair, wrecking, boozing and the occasional bout of melancholy. If not salvage/wrecking, they have some connection with the sea: some of the gravestones in the village churchyard have pictures of boats on them.
