Message: Gaelic and Etruscan Author: maru menervas - Tanaquil Sergius, Patron Date: Dec 14, 2000 17:44 Without any "hineininterpretieren", I would like to say, that my knowledge of gaelic is too limited to make a strong point of the link between Etruscan and Gaelic, but, superficially spoken, there are some things that these two languages have in common. Gaelic/Celtic has been spoken by the ancient Gauls as well and they have been frequently dealing with the Etruscans in the past. Furthermore, if you look at the words and listen to the sounds of the two languages, one might discover some familiarity, but then again, i don't mean exact kinship with the word "familiarity" here. The use of more than one or two consonants after eachother is well know both in Etruscan and in Celtic languages, and so on...But then again, I used to shake my head when my Etruscan tutor, L.B. van der Meer, a Frisian of birth, started to talk again about some links in Etruscan and Frisian, considering the pronunciation of the two languages. Pronunciation of sounds doesnt make a language alone: it's words and structure, syntax and grammar as well.. <> Thanchvil Cilnei/Tanaquil Sergius Next: Gaelic/Frisian/Etruscan ( Zilach Velathris - tanaquil Lupus ) Previous: Which came first?
