Heurgon in his EVERYDAY LIFE OF THE ETRUSCANS says they had an 8-day week, with a market day every 8th day. I'm trying to track down the source--probably an observation of an ancient author. I wouldn't be at all surprised if much of the Roman calendar derives from an Etruscan original. The Ides of each month may well be a survival of an older Etruscan system.
